Housework and other Design Challenges: Charlotte Perriand’s Modern Kitchen for the Unite d’Habitation

This session accompanies the special exhibition Designing Modern Women 1890–1990, and in particular, the recent acquisition of Charlotte Perriand’s innovative kitchen design, produced for Le Corbusier’s masterwork of modernist multiple housing, the Unite d’Habitation. Consider the innovations of Perriand’s design in relation to your own domestic experiences, and discuss just what made this work so important.
