Herwig Baumgartner + Scott Uriu: Familiar and the Uncanny

Herwig Baumgartner and Scott Uriu’s design process is defined by digital techniques and advanced computation that utilizes new technologies and material resources. B+U’s work experiments with new spatial concepts and intensifies existing urban landscapes in pursuit of a visionary aesthetic that encompasses all fields of design. Their recent SCI-Arc Gallery installation, Apertures, was received with critical acclaim. Their work has also been on view at the FRAC Center in Orleans, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, and at the 12th Venice Architecture Biennale. Two monographs have been published on B+U’s work. The firm was recently awarded the Maxine Frankel Award for design research, the AIA National Award for emerging professionals, the Architizer A+ Award for Sustainability, and a 2015 City of Los Angeles Artist Grant. www.bplusu.com
