Governors Island Hard Hat Tour

Join ASLA-NY and The Trust for Governors Island for an exclusive tour!

Now that we are well into our public season on Governors Island, we are making fast progress on the construction of new park and public spaces. Behind our fences, we are also in the midst of an extraordinary transformation. We are entering the final phase of construction of the new glorious park designed by West 8. Since our groundbreaking in June 2012, we’ve imploded derelict high rises, created a new resilient topography for 30 acres with thousands of tons of new fill and laid out bike and pedestrian paths with signature curb elements. Just last week the we installed the foundations for three fountains.

We will be hosting hardhat tours of the construction site for up to 40 people. A member of the Trust or Design Team will meet your group at Soisson’s Landing where the ferry docks on Governors Island and conclude on our new viewing balcony. Visitors will experience the new views and landscape.

The tours will involve approximately one hour of walking on a construction site so comfortable closed-toe footwear will be required. The Trust will provide hard hats and construction vests. You should plan on taking the free ferry from Battery Marine Terminal at 6:15 on Thursday 8/22. Total time, including ferry transportation, will be approximately 90 minutes. Rain dates can be scheduled. We will provide an overview of our experience collaborating on the design and construction of these new landscapes.

Looking forward to having you out on the Island!
