Gallery Tour – Anatomy of a Powerhouse

Over 6,000 tons of steel and iron were used to construct the skeletal frame of this power plant on the East River – equal to the total amount of steel in the Brooklyn Bridge! Join Archive Technician Desiree Alden for a tour of our newest exhibit on the Manhattan Railway Company’s colossal turn of the century powerhouse built to supply electricity to the city’s elevated trains.
