Battledeck House: Modernism and Mechanization

The 1930 Battledeck House, designed by Henry Dubin, is one of the earliest International Style Modern homes in the U.S. It is unique in its modern formalist expression and in its innovative industrialized construction method that was touted as being quick, easy and fireproof. In her presentation, Meg Kindelin, AIA, Johnson Lasky Architects, will situate the House within early 20th-century Modernism and describe its innovative structure and mechanized production techniques. Current conditions at the house will be presented as will a description of the multi-phase restoration that is underway.
