Archtober Architecture and Design Month

With 31 “Building of the Day” tours and scores of activities, lectures, films, installations and exhibitions, Archtober is a celebration of the impact of design and a major draw for archi-tourists and city dwellers alike. All are highlighted on Archtober’s curated calendar, with architecture doings every day. (Available in early August.) The Pentagram-designed Archtober Lounge is located at the Center for Architecture, the official home of Archtober, throughout the month of October. At lunchtime every day of the month, ticketed guests will tour the Archtober Building of the Day, and the project architects prepare podcasts for virtual tours, available at www.culturenow.org and www.archtober.org. With 120-plus offerings and events, October in New York promises to be a lively, tourist-friendly design showcase, including: the Architecture & Design Film Festival at Tribeca Cinemas; a preview of the Guggenheim Helsinki Competition; the new “Heritage Under Siege” program presented by the World Monuments Fund; and a series of talks by winners of the New Practices New York competition.
