Medal of Honor Redesign Competition
The AIA New York Chapter announces a competition for the redesign of the Medal of Honor. Conferred by the chapter since 1914, the award recognizes an architect or firm of architects for distinguished work and high professional standing.
The design competition is open to any architect, sculptor, artist, or student. The specifications of the proposed medal will be the same as the existing design: bronze, bas relief, and reverse side text (text should be centered): “Awarded by the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects to (name) for Distinguished Work and High Professional Standing”. The bronze struck medal must conform to the current dimensions: 2″ in diameter, 3 ⁄16″ thick and 2.3oz.
Entries are due March 15, 2012 by 5:00pm at the Chapter:
536 LaGuardia Place, New York, NY 10012.
Submission Requirements: Image, model, or drawings of both sides of the medal mounted on 81⁄2″ × 11″ gator board, 1⁄4″ thick.
The competition will be juried by a panel comprised of a sculptor, an architect, and a historian.
Entries will not be returned. The finalists’ designs will be exhibited at the Honors and Awards Luncheon, and at the Center for Architecture.
