Cragsmoor Association Tiny House Contest
The Cragsmoor Association wishes to construct a Tiny House that will demonstrate exemplary “small living” principles for visitors and residents of Cragsmoor, Ellenville and Town of Wawarsing. This Tiny House will be open to the public and school groups (hours to be determined) in the high seasons, and also serve as a residence for visiting scientists, historians, naturalists, teachers, artists and other visitors to our region. The CA TINY HOUSE CONTEST contest seeks the lowest cost grid-independent (energy and water) residential facility with an enclosed area between 200 and 400 SF. The winning entry will be constructed on the base site as described in the contest documents on a site in Cragsmoor New York, 12420, and subsequently moved to its final location, which will be one of six sites the entrant must choose from in the Town of Wawarsing. Each bona vide entry will be judged by two panels: the Technical Jury and the Final Jury. The Technical Jury will verify that entries are movable and energy and water independent. It will estimate the cost of each project according to the material quantities indicated in the proposal or by interpretation of submissions. It will also interpret and grade the self-sufficiency and buildability of the project. The technical jury will “fill in the gaps” of technical interpretation for every single entry to “level the playing field” between professional, school-age and contractor entries. Before forwarding entries to the Final Jury, the Technical Jury will ensure that all identifying marks are deleted from sketches and attachments, so that final decisions are anonymous. The Final Jury will judge the entries in terms of innovation in systems and materials; suitability; aesthetics; buidability; affordability, and energy efficiency. The Final Jury will determine the prize winner(s).
