ARPAFIL 2011: DR. LEONARDO OLIVA Herbalism and Ethnobothany Garden
The project’s goal is to provide an ensemble of cultural, scientific, and recreational services for the area around Guadalajara’s civic hospital. Having in mind the historical essence of the site, the proposal consists of restoring the adjacent park to its original state as a botanical garden for medicinal plants. The garden will be complemented with ethnobotanical plants from western Mexico. Parallel to the botanical garden, the project envisions a building with a scientific vocation specializing in herbalism and ethnobotanics. It will be used for research, advancement, and socialization of regional flora. The aim is to safeguard useful and medicinal plant species in western Mexico’s tradition as well as promoting new research.
LOCATION
The site for this project is the city block directly adjacent to Guadalajara’s Botanical Garden. It is enclosed by Hospital street to the north, Coronel Calderon street to the east, Juan Alvarez street to the south, and Humboldt street to the west.
