Woooow that was really fascinating to know….High-speed mag-lev trains utilize a “lifting body” profile to reduce gravity forces at speed, allowing lightweight bridges that act in tension rather than compression. Solar panels charge large-scale capacitors (the big cylinders) between “pulses” which drive the train out of the station.

This post reminded me of one of my favorite project of H&F: Their interpretation of Gibson’s Skinner’s room for SFMOMA’s Visionary San Francisco exhibition. A strange show at the old building, but worth remembering.
