Los Angeles firm tec Architecture and Dutch interior designer Marcel Wanders are partnering to create Kameha Bay Portals, a luxury resort and spa in Mallorca, Spain set to open early in 2013. Located on the island’s posh south coast, the building will take shape out of a nondescript 1960′s concrete building, but according to tec Architecture the 55,000 square foot project is more a reinvention than a renovation.

The new structure will be clad in textile sculptures which, the firm said, “resemble futuristic seaweed emerging from the sea below to cover the lower portion of the building.” Highlighted by a 66 foot waterfall running down its length into the pool, the hotel will also consist of a main building and a beach building, 64 variously-sized rooms, indoor and outdoor spas, a restaurant/bar, and zen inspired gardens. Wanders’ interior decor will complement the changing seasons and will transition from light, bright colors in summer to warmer tones in winter.
