Tour: Viavi Building

August 31, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT

Please join AIA San Francisco’s HIstoric Resource Committee for a tutor of 50 Fell Street. Also known as the Viavi Building, 50 Fell Street was designed by Willis Polk and Company and constructed in 1931 as the headquarters and factory of the Viavi Company for the Law brothers, Herbert and Hartland. An example of the mission revival style popular in the 1920s and 30s, the building has been used as federal and city offices as well as the New College of California School of Law. The building was recently rehabilitated and is now a Montessori School, converted by LePort Schools from Southern California as their first San Francisco campus.

Learn and discuss the history and revitalization of this 1931 gem to a Montessori school and the challenges of a demanding schedule, city reviews, and detailed rehabilitation.
