VISIONARIES: Faris Al-Shathir/BOFFO

Trespa Design Centre New York welcomes architect and avant-garde collaborator Faris Al-Shathir of BOFFO, the New York based arts and culture nonprofit group. Al-Shathir’s BOFFO projects are literally popping up in and around Manhattan, transforming forgotten or unusual spaces into retail installations with architecturally fascinating features. Since BOFFO’s debut in 2009 Al-Shathir and his founding partner, Gregory Sparks, have been pairing emerging architects with artists and designers to create dynamic, one-of-a-kind temporary exhibitions and retail installations with architecturally fascinating features.

Al-Shathir will present and discuss such topics as the concept for BOFFO, the pairing of designers with architects (and vice versa), the selection process behind their collaborations, site and location decisions as well as past, present and upcoming projects.

SPEAKER: Faris Al-Shathir is the Executive Director, President and Co-Founder of BOFFO. A designer and curator based in New York City, Faris holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor of Art in Art from Rhodes College.

BOFFO fosters collaborations between artists, designers, communities, theorists, and the media in the exploration of contemporary subject matter that inform and educate the public through innovative, participatory programming. BOFFO is the conduit between the emerging and the established, the obscure and the adored, the profound and the profane. BOFFO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

$5.00 suggested admission with all proceeds supporting BOFFO
