The Ephemeral City: Lessons from Modern Rome

Nancy Rogo Trainer, FAIA, AICP will share her experience as the 2012-2013 William Penn Foundation Affiliated Fellow to the American Academy in Rome. Her talk will focus on modern Rome, especially 20th-century housing — including Garden City-influenced developments outside the city center, like Garbatella, and housing built for the 1960 Summer Olympics. She’ll also discuss the ephemeral elements — street art, advertising posters, even lines of laundry — that help animate the present-day city and add to the vitality of its public spaces.
