SVA MFA Design Criticism Lecture Series, Fall 2012
You are warmly invited to join SVA MFA Design Criticism students and faculty for our Fall 2012 Lecture Series. On Tuesday evenings at D-Crit we present lectures by the most thoughtful and provocative writers, editors, designers, and curators practicing today in the interrelated fields of design, architecture and urban planning. Selected to supplement our curriculum with their original methods and alternative viewpoints, these speakers inspire and challenge our students. Our students, in turn, through the discussion they lead, help illuminate the concerns and priorities of design criticism today.
For this, our eighth season, we’re excited to announce another stellar line-up of speakers, including: Zoe Coombes, co-founder of experimental furniture and product design studio Cmmnwlth; Pedro Gadanho, Portuguese architecture curator, newly installed at MoMA; brainy fashion theorist and critic, Lucy Collins; feisty urban critic (and D-Crit founding faculty member,) Karrie Jacobs; all three partners of multidisciplinary design studio (and employer of D-Crit alumnus Aileen Kwun,) Project Projects; multi-talented designer, restaurateur, and experience curator, Emilie Baltz; “99% Invisible” radio show creator and host (and recent recipient of $170,000 of funding via Kickstarter,) Roman Mars; author, journalist, and self-publishing evangelist, Steve Almond; and design retailer/gallerist par excellence, Murray Moss.
Each lecture is followed by a moderated Q&A session and wine and cheese in the D-Crit Reading Room. All lectures are free and open to the public but you do need to register to reserve your space.
