Press Pass: Designed in Chicago, Made in China

Chicago is exporting its architectural expertise across the globe, particularly to China. Two Pulitzer Prize-winning Chicago Tribune journalists, architecture critic Blair Kamin and photographer John Kim, teamed up to analyze the Chicago-China connection in an acclaimed series, “Designed in Chicago, Made in China.” Now, Kamin will lead a panel discussion that digs deep into the fascinating issues that arise when world class architecture meets rapid urban development. By urbanizing so quickly, is China diminishing quality of life instead of celebrating it?
The series is part of the Chicago Tribune’s “The Global City” initiative. See more of the series here, then come out and join the discussion.

The Panel:

• Philip Enquist – Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, Partner in charge of urban planning and development
• Silas Chiow – Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, Director of China office
• Ralph Johnson – Perkins + Will, Principal and Design Director
• Jonathan Solomon – Syracuse University School of Architecture, Associate Dean
