Landscape Design Portfolio Lecture Series: A Dialogue With the Elements

Join The New York Botanical Garden as outstanding landscape architects Shunmyo Masuno, Lisa Switkin, and Gary Hilderbrand discuss their signature projects, working methods, and design philosophies. This year’s speakers embrace the intimate relationship between people and their living environments, and all look for ways to uncover layers of natural and cultural meaning in their designs. A contemplative stone, a shaded path, a watery terrace, an unexpected wild vista—integrated but often unexpected elements work to slow us down and heighten our appreciation for the design, but more importantly, for nature itself.

Three Mondays, 6:30-7:30 pm; NYBG Midtown Education Center in Manhattan:
• Oct 20 – Zen and the Japanese Garden with Shunmyo Masuno, landscape architect and Zen Buddhist priest of Yokohama, Japan
• Oct. 27 – The High Line and Beyond with Lisa Switkin, principal at James Corner Field Operations in New York City
• Nov. 3 – Nature and Modernism with Gary Hilderbrand, FASLA, FAAR, partner of Reed Hilderbrand LLC in Cambridge, MA

Each lecture is approved for one AIA, LA CES, and APLD credit hour. Please visit nybg.org/adulted to register and for more information.
