Building Enclosure Symposium and Annual Meetings Bring National Leaders to Cleveland

Cleveland, Ohio, will host annual meetings of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) and Building Enclosure Council (BEC) national chapters in conjunction with a full-day Symposium on High Performing Building Enclosures in May 2014.

This national gathering will feature Henry L.Green, Hon.AIA, President/CEO of NIBS who will set the tone for the symposium with national update on the outlook for the building industry. Established in 1974, NIBS is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that brings together representatives of government, the professions, industry, labor, and consumer interests to identify and resolve building process and facility performance problems.

Reflecting the growing vitality of the Great Lakes region in general and Cleveland in particular, the technical symposium is titled “Great Lakes Renaissance–Symposium on High Performing Building Enclosures.” It is jointly organized by the BEC-CLE and AIA Cleveland chapters and will be held on May 9, 2014, at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland. All attendees are invited to a welcome/ networking reception hosted by Tremco on May 8 from 6-10 p.m. at the Great Lakes Science Center.

Speakers will highlight challenges and offer solutions in achieving energy efficient and sustainable structures in our unique climatic region“ states Nathan Gamber, Co-Chair of BEC-CLE. “We are fortunate to have secured commitments from a distinguished group of professionals including our luncheon keynote speaker, Mr. Laverne Dalgleish. He is a highly respected, dynamic speaker with over three decades of experience in the building industry. He is a frequent presenter across North America on a variety of topics as they relate to building envelopes, energy efficiency, green building practices, standards and quality of construction issues.

“Interest in the symposium already has exceeded our expectations,” reports Ed Taylor, Co-Chair of BEC-CLE, who is also responsible for coordinating sponsorships. “Event is expected to draw 300 or more building professionals from around the country, the Great Lakes Region and N.E. Ohio combined. The group has put aside a number of spaces for a nominal fee for unemployed building professionals and college students.

All building professionals interested in the science of enclosures are invited. Learning credits from AIA, USGBC and RCI have been approved. For more information and registration materials, please visit
