Fifteenth Vincent Scully Prize: Joshua David and Robert Hammond – Harnessing Friction

The Museum awards its prestigious Vincent Scully Prize to Joshua David and Robert Hammond, co-founders of Friends of the High Line. The High Line is a mile-long public park built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. In this original presentation, David and Hammond discuss how the High Line tapped the seemingly incompatible forces of money, real estate, and politics versus community, preservation, and design to create a new kind of public place for the 21st century.
