Exploring the Impact of a Metropolis on the Move

During the 20th century, creative collaborations among planners, architects, engineers, and clients redefined Los Angeles’ expansive landscape in bold, and often controversial, new dimensions. Christopher James Alexander, assistant curator of architecture and design at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles and co-curator of Overdrive: L.A. Constructs the Future, 1940–1990, discusses L.A.’s built legacy, its ongoing evolution, and current efforts to reframe perceptions of one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
