DC Architect to Discuss Designing Contextually Sensitive Additions at Free Lunch Program

Chris Denby

For Immediate Release:
Washington, DC (April 19, 2013) – The District Architecture Center will continue its series of engaging architectural seminars with the next installment of its brownbag series “25 Architects in 25 Weeks.” Gregory Wiedemann, AIA, Principal of Wiedemann Architects, will discuss “Responses to Context” on May 8, 2013. Mr. Wiedemann’s lecture will run from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm.

Mr. Wiedemann will discuss how to design additions that seamlessly connect with the existing structure. Specifically, his lecture will examine the Maisonette (998 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY), which won a 2012 AIA|DC Chapter Design Merit Award, as well as other natural and built contexts in the work of Wiedemann Architects.

A recipient of the AIA Medal—an award given to the top-ranked architecture student at Harvard—Mr. Wiedemann practiced as a partner at Muse-Wiedemann Architects prior to establishing his own firm in 1984. Mr. Wiedemann has experience in all scales of design projects, from residential additions to large institutional and commercial projects. Mr. Wiedemann and his firm are perhaps best known for the design of sympathetic additions to older structures.

“Mr. Wiedemann and his team at Wiedemann Architects are experts in the area of period construction, and have an outstanding industry reputation for creating seamless additions,” said Mary Fitch, Executive Director of AIA|DC. “Mr. Wiedemann’s ability to modernize and revitalize older structures is remarkable, and we are pleased to hear his thoughts and insights.”

“Responses to Context” will be held from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on May 8, 2013 and is free to the public.
