On July 18 Mars Dietz invites you to a public work in progress showing of a chorus for countervere, a score for five people generated while in Resource Room Residency at PICA. The work will also be shown the following week in its latest iterations on July 26th at 6PM and July 27th at 3PM, and will coincide with the release of the project zine, counterverse.

a chorus for counterverse is an ongoing score and research based project meant to explore the language and echoes of the library. Driven and underscored by questions of the responsibility of language: “In these times, how can one speak?” and “What must one say in these times?”, a chorus for counterverse is a strategy for embodying language as it already exists in the world.

counterverse, a small publication parallel to the performances, is an alternate route of navigation through the library based on translating excerpts from its books. The zine will be released during the July 26th and 27th performance showings.

This work in progress showing of a chorus for counterverse on July 18th is intended to invite the audience to engage in the creative process through sustained witness to follow the development of the score. There will be an optional, observation-based feedback session following the performance of the score.
