Eleventh edition
Furniture elements for domestic dressing spaces

The Aldo Morelato Foundation launches the eleventh edition of the International Competition “Significant Furniture” with the theme “Dressing Spaces”. Domestic spaces are changing and it becomes necessary to maximize space by using functional and “significant” solutions, designed to store everyday and seasonal clothing.

The invitation for the 2014 edition of the Competition is to present a project and in particular to develop an object, a piece of furniture as a tool used to organize in the best way our “dressing spaces”. There are many types of clothing; work clothing, sportwear, beachwear clothing for holidays in the mountains, which all require a different and specific storing system.
The Aldo Morelato Foundation has always been an active promoter of furniture as “art” and therefore suggests to direct the projects towards objects that valorize woodwork.

As every year the Morelato company will produce the prototype of the winning project which will become part of the permanent collection of the MAAM, Museum for applied Art in the Furniture Field of the Foundation.

For the 2014 edition there are two major awards:
First Prize “The Aldo Morelato Foundation – Opera Project” of € 5,000.00 (for professionals);
The Student Awatd of € 2,500.00 (for students).
The competition is open to professional designers from Italy and abroad as well as to students from different school types for design and architecture. The projects must be consigned no later than 15 May 2014. Only new projects will be admitted, which will be selected by a jury composed of: Silvana Annichiarico (Director of the Triennale Design Museum), Ettore Mocchetti (designer and Director of AD Magazine/ Condé Nast), Paolo Rizzato (Architect), Ugo La Pietra (designer and theorist of applied arts, art director of the FAM), and Giorgio Morelato (President of the FAM).

The final evaluation will take place June 13, 2014 and the results will be available directly on the website of the Aldo Morelato within the 30 June 2014. The winners of the competitions as well as the honorable mentions will be contacted directly by the secretary of the organization. In occasion of the Verona Abitare 100% Project Fair 2014 edition a gala evening dedicated to the Centre of Applied Arts will be organized, during which the winning projects will be exhibited as well as the prototype of the winning project.
