These days, postage stamps of modern design icons are not much of a surprise. As you might recall, this past June the USPS issued a commemorative sheet of stamps featuring 16 of Charles and Ray Eames’ designs, including furniture, architecture, film, and exhibition designs. Newly released British stamps of design classics are said to convey quintessential modern British design, according to Jonathan Glancey, the Guardian’s architecture critic.

These 10 new stamps with images ranging from the Mini car to the miniskirt, released by the Royal Mail, include works by lesser known designers such as Harry Beck, the mastermind behind the London Underground Map, or Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the creator of the infamous K2 Telephone Kiosk, and also a well-known British architect.

While all the stamps present a familiar, if not iconic, image, most of these objects have gone for so long without the mention and/or notoriety of their not-so-famous designers. While the series of stamps does credit those who designed such notable creations as the Concorde and the Routemaster Bus, it is done so by means of a light inscription on the bottom of each individual stamp.
